You Belong to Him

In the World but Not of It… Really Living It

May 01, 20252 min read

I’ve heard the phrase “in the world, but not of the world” for over 20 years—read it in Scripture, heard it in sermons, worn the T-shirts and bracelets. I thought I understood it. I even thought I lived it. But recently, I’ve begun to truly experience it.

Yes, I’ve been part of Christian community. Yes, I’ve carried my faith and values with me into everyday life. But now, more than ever, I’m realizing that living set apart—truly not being of this world—comes with a cost. As I grow in boldness and walk in deeper devotion to Yeshua, the world has taken notice. Not always in a good way.

A family member recently told me I should consider being more “moderate” in my faith. That comment hit hard. It made me ask: Have I not made it clear that my faith is not something I put on and take off, but the very essence of who I am? I cannot separate myself from Yeshua any more than I can remove my heart and go on living.

And as I lean into that identity—quietly, without preaching or pushing—something strange is happening. People are pulling away. Friends who once embraced me have grown distant. Strangers who once smiled seem to retreat. It’s as if they sense I am not of this world… and it makes them uncomfortable.

It hurts. I won’t pretend it doesn’t. But it also confirms something: I’m being identified—not by my words, but by my life—as one who belongs to Him.

And Yeshua told us this would happen.

“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated Me first.” – John 15:18

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake…” – Matthew 5:10

If you’re feeling this too—if you’re being overlooked, misunderstood, or even rejected simply because you carry His name—hold fast. You’re not alone. In fact, you may be walking more closely in His footsteps than you ever have before.

Keep shining. Keep walking. Keep standing.

You do belong—just not to this world.

You belong to Him.

May His peace and comfort surround you today.
